Salman Khan has a new passion - the series Ice Road Truckers on HISTORY channel, that was launched yesterday.
Khan, the face of the channel, is keenly following the pursuits of American and Canadian tough truck drivers who undertake one of the most dangerous jobs on earth. They travel over ice roads that often take them over frozen lakes. Each man is trained in self-survival - from fixing his truck in sub-zero conditions in seconds to escaping a truck if the ice cracks.
The series has now been shot in India on Himalayan roads. Says Salman, "The Himalayan roads are among the oldest on the planet. The grit and determination demonstrated by these three adventurous truckers - one of them, a woman named Lisa - is truly inspiring."
The factual entertainment genre worldwide has undergone major change with greater emphasis on creating fact-based entertainment, thrill and action formats that appeal to a wider audience. This transformation has helped HISTORY move to a leadership position in the US and other markets. In India, it will aim to emulate the same.
A joint venture between A+E Networks and TV 18, the channel is now available in six languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi - in full HD across all major Indian markets and will reach out to more than 50 million households in the launch phase itself.
Ajay Chacko, president of the joint venture, says, "The show selection and content mix are based on exhaustive studies, content testing and feedback from a variety of audiences. The channel's promise 'History Made Everyday' captures the spirit of a new programming paradigm to be introduced for the first time in India. History is not just about the past, it's as much about people making history today."
Tune in at 9 pm everyday to watch more action packed specials from Ice Road Truckers to Swamp People, Shock Wave to Top Shot and more.
