A pair of baggy denims and a printed blouse under a full sleeved jacket work well for Mumbai restaurateur and actress Ayesha Takia's husband Farhan Azmi's peace of mind.
Azmi, who comes from an affluent, conservative Muslim family with strong political leanings (his father Abu Azmi is state president of the Samajwadi Party), is said to have kept a keen watch on his wife's wardrobe in Mod, her forthcoming release with which she returns to Hindi cinema after a two year post- marriage sabbatical.
Azmi, say close sources, is particularly conscious of Takia's public image and has been monitoring her return to cinema.
"Ayesha's husband has been cautious about her return to movies. He comes from a conservative background, and is said to have advised her to take up roles that allow her to maintain her image without compromising his father's political career in any way, " says a source.
Revealing outfits and short dresses are out for Takia. In fact, the reason why Takia's return to films was easy was because Mod is a Nagesh Kukunoor production, and the director-producer is said to be close to the couple since Takia considers him her rakhi brother.
"Ayesha ties a rakhi to Nagesh every year. He has also cast her in her best work to date, Dor. So, when the offer for Mod came along, Farhan was comfortable with the idea, " says the source.
He did however have one eye on her wardrobe, and scenes she was to do with co-star Rannvijay Singh.
"Farhan flew down to the location via chopper to make sure everything was in order. He is aware of Nagesh's aesthetics, and of how protective he is towards Ayesha. But he wanted to make doubly sure."
Predictably, Kukunoor denied Azmi's special interest in the proceedings.
"I always dress my actors according to the roles they play. Farhan liked the way Ayesha looks in Mod; the sweet, adorable girl next door." Takia too got back to us with, "I've been very particular about what I wear anyway."
